A new people’s tearoom has been opened in the village of Bourn. The fairtrade gift shop called Abantu, has expanded their values into a new teashop with strict operating standards. Without their belief abantu could probably make more money and sell cheaper products, but abantu cares about where they source their produce from, and who and how our gifts are made. Some people would not mind, but at abantu they do. Cafe@abantu believes in dealing with community based and local suppliers, sourcing gifts and produces responsibly, making sure of each suppliers policies and ethical issues. At abantu they try to look to local first, giving those around them a chance, then concentrating on the UK for food as much asthey can. Fairtrade is always a policy that abantu keeps in mind. The use of sugars, syrups, cocoa, coffees and tea will always be sourced fairtrade, whether in purchasing or in baking. They believe in community and the communities of their suppliers, believing that all suppliers deserve a sustainable future. Using Fairtrade is abantu’s way of contributing to the people in communities. Abantu’s food policy is based on good food, using pure and simple products, eventually trying to grow their own as much as possible. Serving you good quality food as kindly as possible, stating from the passion that abantu was born with. abantu’s growth from gifts into a tea shop is exciting and abantu looks forward to the local people around them enjoying your tearoom, making use of the lovely setting to their full advantage, whether it’s an espresso first thing or to hold a meeting, to the lovely relaxing Saturday afternoon cream teas on the lovely sun trapped patio. They look forward to the return of all their current customers and welcome any newcomers as they explore the journey of café@abantu, the people tea room.
